ALMETA LOUISE PINGLEY

December 13, 1934 — April 3, 2010

Almeta Pingley In loving memory of Almeta Louise Pingley of Nelson Twp., who was born December 13, 1934 in Newton Falls, Ohio. Almeta left her earthly home and was placed in the hands of our loving God on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Akron City Hospital after a prolonged illness.

Almeta leaves behind her husband of 56 years, Raymond E. Pingley, who resides at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna; daughters, Sandy Uher of Pensacola, Fla, Cathy (Robert) Lujan of Streetsboro, Ohio and Lorrie (Jeff) Webb of Newton Falls, Ohio; grandchildren, Angie Brill, Brandon Uher, Kevin Uher of Pensacola, Fla., and Lea McEndree of Newton Falls; great-grandchildren, Tyler Uher, Brianna Hoomes and Garrison Story of Fla. .

Almeta was preceded in death by her parents, Claire and Virginia (Escott) Custer and was a loving sister to her brothers and sisters, Tommy, Jerry, Louie, Jeanette, Rella, Carol, Barb and Pam. She was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia. Almeta was born and raised in Newton Falls and attended high school in Windham, Ohio.

After her marriage to Ray in 1954, they built their home on Newell Ledge Road in Garrettsville where they lived for over 60 years. Almeta retired from Packard Electric in 1988 after 35 years of service. She was a member of the Faith Evangelical Free Church in Garrettsville where she loved to worship and greatly enjoyed singing old hymns.

Almeta’s love for vegetable and flower gardening was apparent to all those visiting, as she always had a bed full of seasonal flowers and loved planting beautiful sunflowers at the head of Ray’s vegetable garden each year. Almeta spent many hours in the garden alongside her husband each summer and enjoyed canning and freezing. Almeta was a great cook and enjoyed baking year-round. Friends and family always left her house with a satisfied appetite and leftovers for home. Almeta loved to camp and fish with her husband at Wardens Lake in Virginia and in later years, spent many weeks each summer at West Branch enjoying the outdoors and nature.

Almeta’s friends and family have enjoyed her crochetted handiwork, and her handpainted ceramics were favorites with her daughters. Our lives won’t be the same without our mom, wife, sister and grandma, but we rejoice to know that she is free from all pain and with her Lord and all those that have passed before her. Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna who have loved and cared for Almeta the past several years.
