CHARLOTTE HEMMERT

August 13, 1920 — April 5, 2010

Charlotte Connaughton Hemmert, an ordinary woman who lived an ordinary life with extraordinary grace, integrity and success died today, April 5, 2010. She was born on August 13, 1920 to Frank and Pauline Connaughton in Wapakoneta, OH where she was educated at St. Joseph Parish schools.

She graduated from Western College for Women in Oxford, OH in 1942 with a B.A. in biology. She worked as a chemist for Seagram’s Inc. in Lawrenceburg, IN. On November 26, 1942, she married Richard C. Hemmert of Botkins, OH. After his discharge from the Army Air Corps in 1945 they settled in Botkins. In the mid 1960’s the family relocated to Northeast Ohio where Charlotte began her involvement with the Society for Handicapped Citizens. During this association, she enjoyed 19 years of gratifying work and developed fast friendships. Charlotte’s gentle words of encouragement influenced the lives and decisions of all those who knew her.

She was predeceased by her husband in 2003.

She is survived by her siblings Ellenore Weger of Wapakoneta, Carole Connaughton of Sault Ste. Marie, MI and John Connaughton of South Bend, IN.

She is also survived by her four children and their spouses Mike and Carol Hemmert of Hingham, MA, Anne and George Geyer of Virginia Beach, VA , Tom and Jackie Hemmert of Westerville, OH and Ellen and Ron Martyn of Blackstock, Ontario.

Charlotte was the grandmother of twelve grandchildren and ten great- grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church in Medina at 10:00 AM Friday April 9, 2010.

In lieu of flowers donations should be made to The Society of Handicapped Citizens in Medina or St. Vincent DePaul.
