GEORGE STANLEY BARNOSKY

December 16, 1929 — February 13, 2019

George Barnosky, age 89, of Brunswick, passed away on February 13, 2019. He was born on December 16, 1929 in Fairchance, PA to the late Emery and Amalia (nee Koneval) Barnosky, both originally from Kolackov, Slovakia.

George served with the U.S. Army, Btry C 82nd AAA in Korea 1952-1953. He is an active member of VFW Post 9520 in Brunswick as well as the Korean War Veterans Association chapter 69 in Berea. He loved meeting with his military peers and talking about old times.

In his career as a machinist, he was active in helping to establish union representation in local industry, during which time he met many notable political and historic figures. He was a treasure trove of anecdotes from these times, always speaking with humor and fondness. George was a friend to everyone he met and never had a bad word to say about anyone. His hobby was raising Roller and Parlor Tumbler pigeons. He won many awards with his birds and was often asked to show them at festivals and events.

In his later years, he faced serious health issues with a sense of humor and gratitude for the many people that stayed close and made his days special. The residents of Pearl Crossing became family to him, and his family wishes to thank them for being a part of his last years. Family also wishes to thank the many medical and professional personnel that cared for him and the Hospice of the Western Reserve in Medina for easing his transition into his next life.

He is survived by his children: David, Linda (Stanley) Pelka, Fran Hanson and James (Julie), as well as sisters-in-law Betty Barnosky and Virginia Barnosky. He is the grandfather of Michelle (John) Stover, Cynthia Barnosky, Kathy (John) Haddad, David (Ashley) Barnosky, Jessica Pelka, Rhiannan (John) James, Shawna Straub (Todd Lachowicz), and Mindy (Rudy) Granillo. He also has 12 great-grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his wife Connie (nee Verhun); daughter, Connie Schaefer; and all of his siblings, Louise, Margaret, Frank, Paul, Charles, Mildred and Andrew.
