GLOVER "BRUCE" E. BRUCE
November 2, 1915 — April 16, 2014
Glover “Bruce” E. Bruce, 98, a Sacramento, Kentucky boy was born Nov. 2, 1915, and died April 14, 2014 in Medina. Raised in Bremen, KY, he spent his adult life in the Norton/Barberton area moving to Medina 4 months ago.
“Bruce’s” first job was working on a sweet potato farm in KY, eating all the sweet potatoes he wanted. After that experience he never ate another sweet potato. While working at his roll top desk he was a meticulous, proud watchmaker. He retired from Seiberling Rubber Co. at the age of 62. “Bruce” was a 60 plus year Mason, a member of AA sponsoring anyone who needed help. He loved his family, dogs, college sports, reading and anything chocolate. “Bruce” never bartered, traded or sold; he only gave. One couldn’t begin to list the individuals and organizations he helped. If someone needed a loaf of bread, a roasted chicken, clothing, money, vehicle or his home, he gave often without the recipient’s knowledge. During WWII “Bruce” was trained as a “Swimmando” in the United States Army, 1105th Engineer Combat Group. He swam into Normandy 4 days before the invasion, paving the way for those who followed.
Uncle Glover will be missed by his niece and nephew Linda and “Bud” Myers, his 9 great nieces and nephews and their spouses and 11 great-great nieces and nephews, his daughter-like, special friend Kim and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and only sibling, Helen Moore Hennessey, nephew Esty Moore and niece Joan Pribonic.
We all benefited by knowing this amazing, quiet, giving man. In life he gave; his wish would be that you be a “giver” not a “taker”. “Bruce” will now receive his reward. God Bless him! In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Burial will be private in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio. Officiant Chaplain Bill Eshelman from Cross Roads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Dr. Suite E, Green, Ohio 44685.
