JACK S. TRAMONTE

Jack S. Tramonte was born on November 9, 1927, at home on the family farm in Medina County. He died May 4, 2010, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loved ones.
During World War II, Jack served in the Merchant Marines. Jack loved working. He was a lifelong beer distributor with the Tramonte Distributing Company, founded in 1940 by Jack's father, Giacomo Tramonte. He started out driving a truck, at 16, and eventually became president of the company. Jack led the Wholesale Beer Association of Ohio in 1977 as president, and was named Wholesaler of the Year in 2003 by the Ohio Tavern News. Tramonte Distributing Company won the High Life Achievement award in 2008 under his direction.
Jack was an avid harness racing enthusiast and was named Horse Owner of the Year at Northfield Park. He and his family enjoyed watching the Cleveland Cavaliers. Jack sponsored many sports teams over the years, including the nationally ranked 1960's Black Label baseball team. His basketball teams included such players as Bobby Knight, Gus Johnson and Gene Michaels. He was inducted into the Summit County Sports Hall of Fame in 1971.
Preceded in death by his parents, Giacomo and Carmela Tramonte; his sister, Nina "Lee" Marino; and brothers, Andrew, Dominic and Joseph, he is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Norma (Anderson); his sons, Jack (Marcy) of Medina, Ohio, and Michael (Irene) of Akron, Ohio; and daughters, Alice (Terry) Ericksen of Wadsworth, Ohio, Nancy (Timothy) Bechtold of Columbus, Ohio, and Joanne Tramonte of Coral Springs Fla.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A special thanks to Dr. Hugh McGlaughlin for his constant care and support.
