JAMES H. ASHBY SR

May 17, 1943 — September 24, 2018

James H. “Jim” Ashby Sr. 75, of Garrettsville, Ohio passed away with his loved ones by his side on Monday, September 24, 2018. He was born May 17, 1943 in Goldsberg, NC to Harold & Lorainne (Wood) Ashby.

Jim loved hunting, fishing, gardening, billiards, going to flea markets, taking walks around lakes and drives through the countryside with his darling wife. He loved to watch the sci-fi and outdoor channels. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his family.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Gladys, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage; son, James Ashby; daughters, Andrea Ashby of Hiram, Deborah Ashby of Shalersville, Regina Ashby of Niles and Jennifer Ashby-Veid (Daniel) of Florida; grandchildren, Amber, Anthony, Daniel, Michael, Mitchell, Brittiny, Joseph, Craig, Kaylee, David, Emily, Alex, James and Jarod; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon Asher of Tennessee; mother-in-law, Vicie Walker, sisters-in-law, Virginia DiMatteo and Betty (Richard) Berlof and niece, Stacey Henderson.

Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Lora Lynn Ashby, parents, and brothers in law, Edmond Heugel and Angelo DiMatteo.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 26, 2018 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services 8382 Center St. Garrettsville, Ohio 44231. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 12:00PM. Burial will follow in Harrington Cemetery, Nelson Township, Ohio.

The family would like to thank Gregory Johnson, D.O, Andrea Presley, RN, Director of UH Hospice and all of the nurses on the floor for taking such great care of Jim. You are angels on earth.
