JAMES EARL PELC

February 19, 1939 — March 27, 2020

James E. “Jim” Pelc, 81, of Canal Fulton, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2020. Born February 19, 1939 in Cleveland, he was the son of Jerry and Evelyn (nee Runkle) Pelc.

Jim was married to his loving wife Beverly (nee Spaeth) Pelc for 59 years. They met through their local Methodist Youth Fellowship and maintained many of those friendships throughout the years.

Jim was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Newburgh Lodge #379. He worked for the Local 18 Operating Engineers Union and was recently recognized for his 50th Anniversary of membership. In his personal life, he was known to be able to fix anything, or come up with a solution to any problem. He was always the one you would turn to for help in any situation.

Jim was a lifelong hobbyist and an active member of the North East Garden Railroad Club. He spent many hours creating meticulous replicated miniature buildings. His attention to realistic details showcased the amazing artist that he was.

Jim and his wife shared their love of the national parks with their children through many trips across the United States. His knowledge of each park painted a vision to all who heard his beautiful stories and inspired many to travel and experience it firsthand. In his later years, he and his wife, Bev, traveled much of the US to visit many of the lighthouses throughout the country. From these travels, they curated a wonderful collection of miniature replica lighthouses.

Jim was also a lover of the outdoors and spent many summer weekends camping at Charles Mill Lake near Mansfield. He enjoyed pontoon boating and many shenanigans with his longstanding permanent neighbors at the campground. He also was a leader of the Boy Scouts. Over these years he assisted many scouts in achieving their Eagle Scout rank.

Jim will be missed by his loving wife, Bev; son, Glenn (Kim) Pelc of Clinton, son Gary (Mary Beth) Pelc of Stow and daughter Cheryl (Bill) Filion of Sharon Township; grandchildren, Justin, Gillian, Evan, Zak, Kaeley, Kendra and Michael.

Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to your favorite National Park or the National Park Foundation at https://www.nationalparks.org/ .

Jim's arrangements have been entrusted to Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 3477 Medina Road, Medina, OH 44256.
