JOSEPH W ROG

March 1, 1940 — November 12, 2018

Joseph Rog, age 78, of Medina Twp., OH, passed away November 12, 2018. He was born March 1, 1940 in Titusville, PA, to the late Stanley and Gladys Rog. Joe grew up in Titusville, later moving to Oil City, PA and eventually Kent, OH. He was a graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School. A gifted athlete, he excelled in football, basketball and track and field. His senior year in high school he was a member of the Kent Roosevelt basketball team that played for the Ohio state championship.

Joe began his college career at Baldwin Wallace. He later transferred to Kent State University and graduated with a degree in Geology. He later earned a Certificate in Business Administration from Stanford University.

Following college, Joe met and married Joan Boxler. They were married for 53 years. They lived in Chagrin Falls, OH before moving to Des Plains, Ill. where Joe began his career at Harco, a leader in the field of cathodic protection. The family eventually moved to Medina, OH. During his long career at Harco, Joe helped to grow the company into a multi-million dollar international business. He traveled around the world frequently, building sales offices and initiating projects in places like Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Japan. Following a reorganization at Harco, Joe and a group of his colleagues founded Corrpro Companies, Inc. with Joe as Chairman and CEO. The original headquarters was located in the basement of his home but it grew quickly. It eventually became the largest company of its kind in the world. In spite of his success, Joe was known for his lack of pretentiousness and his loyalty to those who had helped him. He retired in 2004.

Joe was an exceptional athlete and gained local notoriety for playing basketball well into his sixties in leagues with players decades younger. He is a member and honorary captain of the "Still Here" team which hosts an annual golf outing fundraiser dedicated to the support of basketball and brotherhood. Funds were donated to help underserved children experience basketball.

Joe had a passion for fly fishing. During his lifetime, the family owned real estate in Big Sky, MT and Ahrensville, PA. Joe and Joan traveled frequently to Big Sky eventually spending their summers there in retirement. A typical day was spent fly-fishing the Gallatin, Madison or Yellowstone Rivers. They also enjoyed their family cottage on the Allegheny River in PA, boating and fishing on the river and fly fishing Oil Creek and other streams in the area. Joe never lost his passion for fishing and it took him all over the world - from Alaska to New Zealand and even to Chile at age 77.

Joe was a devoted family man and nothing brought him more joy than being among family and friends. He was known for his generosity, sense of humor and love of life. He will be dearly remembered by his sons, Jeff, of Strongsville, Joe of Fairfield, CT; daughters, Jocelyn Rog of Hilliard, OH, Jacquie Rog of Columbus, OH; his beloved grandchildren, Connor, Tate, A.J., and Sophia; his sister Jocelyn and brothers Jim and John.
