Joseph Schaffner, age 66, of Brunswick, passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at Cityview Nursing Home, Cleveland.
He was born on May 27, 1955 in Detroit, MI to the late Joseph and Mary (nee Pickrahn) Schaffner.
Joe was a graduate of Brunswick High School and earned a bachelor's degree at Kent State. He served in the United States Army. He lived and worked over the years in Germany, France, Spain and Mexico. He spoke those languages fluidly. He made his way to Greece for a couple of years. He eventually ended up in China and was deported from there. When he returned from China his health began to decline. The VA was a life saver and enabled Joe to have a few more years of life. Joe spent the remainder of his life in Cleveland near his family. He was a mystery to us. He leaves behind his children Christopher and Ilse as well as his brothers and sister.
A funeral procession will form at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 1642 Pearl Road, Brunswick ( 1/2 mile south of Rt. 303) on Monday, June 7, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. to Eastlawn Cemetery, where a graveside service will take place.
