JUNE K. ZIMMER

December 17, 1951 — August 10, 2020

June K. Zimmer, 68, of Bay Village, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2020, at her home. She was born December 17, 1951, in Cleveland to Leonard and Virginia (Boenig) Zimmer. June was a graduate of Lakewood High School and The Ohio State University.

In college, she developed a love for football and hockey, getting hockey tickets to the OSU / Michigan hockey game from Woody Hayes simply for being the only person who would wish him a “good morning” when they would pass each other on campus. She worked at Marquard & Joyce and at United Agencies for many years. June loved to travel and had a great sense of adventure - from touring Europe in her youth to riding the Trans Siberian Railroad through Russia and China later in life.

She was fiercely independent, but was just as fiercely loyal to her family and friends. She loved to be with, listen to, and share with people…. and dogs. June was always the weakest link for the dogs - they knew exactly where to turn for treats and petting. She LOVED Halloween and her decorations were legendary - captivating all the children and adults in her neighborhood and helping her family decorate to a similar level. No one wrapped a package like June - what was inside was almost secondary to the creative appearance on the outside. She loved to craft and make ornaments and gifts for people.

June was a lifelong learner with a wide variety of interests. She often volunteered, including teaching people to read and was the longest serving volunteer working the suicide hotline for the Free Clinic. Helping was all the thanks she needed.

She was a doting aunt (a title she didn’t like) to Kristen and Katie, often taking them on adventures and sharing her love of travel. This affection grew to include the next generation of family, Bret, Devon, Stella, Christian, and Kaitlyn.

June will be deeply missed by her loving brothers, Leonard of Oak Harbor WA, Steve (Mary Ann) of McGregor, TX, and Mitchell of Lakewood, OH. She will also be dearly missed by her aunt, cousins, nieces, and many friends.

A graveside service for June will be held on Saturday, August 22 at 1 pm at Park Cemetery, 8588 Center St, Garrettsville, OH 44231 Arrangements for June were entrusted to Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services 8382 Center St. Garrettsville.
