Photo: Obituary: Lucy Helen Aliff (Vinson) of Garrettsville, Ohio passed away Friday, March 1, 2013 after a short illness. She was born October 28, 1931 in Delbarton West Virginia. Lucy married Harold Aliff on November 24, 1952. They lived in Bluefield WV for a few years, moving to Bedford Heights in 1958. She worked raising her family and also worked in a factory. In 1978 Lucy and Harold moved to Garrettsville and bought a little farm. They enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren, raising goats, ducks, chickens and other animals. Lucy was known for her skills in quilting and afghan making. The blankets she made have delighted people for many years. If there was a raffle or special occasion she never hesitated to donate. They were always the highlights of a function. Her children and grandchildren have very fond memories of her teaching them how to crochet, sew and do bead work. They all did many crafts with her. She opened her doors to an abundance of people throughout her life. She was always very blessed with her wonderful neighbors. She left a legacy of love behind, no matter who passed through her home. There was always a hot cup of coffee or a meal and conversation around the kitchen table in her home. Lucy is survived by her children, Harold Aliff II (Sandy) of Cleveland, Denise Watkins of Aurora, Beauta DeGenero (Frank) of Garrettsville, Cynthia Aliff (Mike Starkey) of Garrettsville, Catherine Kester (Archie) of Garrettsville; grandchildren Stacey Ackley (Scott), Harold Watkins, Harold Aliff III, Jesse Aliff, Dominick DeGenero, Devon DeGenero, Laurel Kester and Barbara Kester; great-grandchildren, Dustin Monro, Taylor Monro, Harold Aliff IV, Brianna Watkins, Sadie Aliff, William Turk, Ava Aliff and William Bates. She is preceded in death by her husband Harold Aliff. Once in a lifetime you meet a special person that brings a smile to your face, lifts your spirits when you’re sad, or just gives you a hug for no apparent reason. They are a rare and special jewel. Our Mom was that person. We were truly blessed to have had her in our lives. We can only thank her for the wisdom and knowledge that she has left us with. She was our blessing from God. Cremation has taken place, interment to be at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231.
