Margaret N. Clapp, 97, of Garrettsville, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012 at Robinson Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health. The daughter of Henry C. and Anna L. Newcomb of Nelson, she married Paul C. Clapp in 1937.
She worked at Packard Electric Co. prior to WWII and Polson Rubber Co. and Carlon Industries after her return to Garrettsville. For many years she was secretary to the Dean of Hiram College, retiring in 1984. She was a member of numerous organizations including Squarenaders, the Twentieth Century Club of Nelson, the Literary Musical Club of Nelson, Hiram Research Club and the Hiram Christian Church. She was a 50-year-plus member of the Order of the Eastern Star, in both the Phoenix and Crescent chapters.
She is survived by her sister, Alma Jones of Nelson; daughters, Geraldine C. Joy of Evanston, Ill. and Betty Clapp of Garrettsville; grandchildren, Kai (Shauna), Ra (Falona), and Ebony Joy; and six great-grandchildren.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Paul; and brothers Malcom, Ray, and Richard Newcomb, and George and Carl Lieberman.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Hiram Christian Church, 6868 Wakefield Rd., Hiram, Ohio. Family will meet friends one hour prior to the service from 11 AM to 12 PM at the church. Inurnment will be at Park Cemetery, Garrettsville. On-line condolences at www.carlsonfuneralhomes.com .
