MILDRED NEELY

December 13, 1926 — July 29, 2018

Mildred Neely passed away peacefully last evening, July 29th, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 13, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late James and Minnie Morgan.

She is survived by her son Kermit (Beth) Neely; two daughters, Colleen Neely and Kathryn (Tim) McKinzie; four grandchildren, Taylor Neely, Lauren McKinzie, Chloe McKinzie, and Hannah Neely, and four great-grandchildren.

Preferring Millie, as Mildred was “too formal” for her likes, Millie grew up in Maple Heights, Ohio and was a graduate of Maple Heights High School. In 1949, she began her career in the nearly new television industry, at WEWS station. In her more than seven years on the job, she acted as receptionist, traffic manager, secretary to the national sales manager, and even a hand model for an on-air show.

Millie went on to work for Travelers Insurance where she met many wonderful, lifetime friends, including the love of her life, Kermit Neely. It was love at first sight, and the couple was wed in 1954. Not long after, The Neelys moved to Brunswick, Ohio where both Kermit and Millie became active members in the community. She joined the County’s Homemakers Club and served on the following boards: YM-YWCA, Brunswick City Charter Commission, United Torch Services and the Community Mental Health Board. She was also on the Metropolitan Housing in Medina for 19 years and belonged to the Brunswick Book Club and was active in the Brunswick Food Bank for many years.

Always active and curious, Millie believed in the importance of constant learning and the magical, transportive powers of a library card. She collected dictionaries and was thrilled to discover a new word and implement it. Kermit and Millie also enjoyed traveling, and spent most of their vacations in Sarasota, Florida.

Millie was adored by her family and friends, with a reputation from her grandkids as the “best chef in the world,” highly regarded for her famous french toast. Millie will be missed by all, but her love of learning, creating, her remarkable charisma, and dynamic catchphrases will never be forgotten. As she would always say, “see you anon.”

Friends may join the family for Visitation on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 from 5-8 pm in the Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 1642 Pearl Road (1/2 mile south of Route 303), Brunswick, Ohio, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Adam Zajac, will officiate. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Brunswick.

Donations may be made in Mildred’s memory to the Medina County SPCA, 8790 Guilford Road, Seville, OH 44273.
