PETER BIRSCHL

Peter Birschl of Brunswick, Ohio passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 22, 2022. Born June 29, 1938 in Bosnia-Herzogovina to Franz and Marie Birschl. He grew up in Rottenmann (Steiermark) Austria.

Beloved husband of 62 years to Erna (nee Schneider), loving and devoted father to Elli (Frank) Cohan, and Trudi Strnad. Loving "Opi" to Stephanie Allen, Carissa Allen, Briana Allen (Chase Routte), Mike Allen (Maria Cervantes), Erika Strnad, and Peter Strnad. Loving "Great Opi" to Skylin, Kalisi, and Iliana. Loving brother of Emmi (deceased) (Adi) Kräutl, Rosina (John) Synylo, Frances (Otto) Muennich, and Regina (Ferdinand) Prem. Beloved "Onkel Pete" to Walter Kräutl, Arno Kräutl, Peter Prichodko, Victor Synylo, Joe Greif, Tom Greif, Andre Prem, and Peter Prem. Former father-in-law to Ed Allen. Dear friend to many.

Peter immigrated to the United States in 1956 and embraced his new homeland by becoming a U.S. Citizen. Peter was a tool and die maker, UAW member, and retired from Daimler Chrysler. He was in his element outdoors in nature and was a beekeeper and gardener. Peter was an avid skier and was a ski instructor at Brandywine Ski Resort. He would race in NASTAR, often beating the pacesetter's time. He was also a member of the Edelweiss Ski Club, Donauschwaben German Club at Lenau Park, the E.O.U.V. (Gottscheer) Club in Novelty, Ohio. Peter would often be seen working the various events at these clubs, as well as at the Deutsche Zentrale. Peter played soccer for the German-Americans and refereed for high school soccer games. He was also an avid hunter and spent may times hunting with his hunting buddy, Werner, at Werner's hunting lodge. He was an all-around athlete, also participating in tennis, golf, bicycling, and mountain climbing with his nephews in the Austrian Alps. Peter held a patent while at Chrysler. Peter and his wife, Erna, were founding members of St. Colette Parish of Brunswick.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Colette Parish, 330 West 130th Street, in Brunswick, Ohio, on Friday, July 29, 2022 at 11am, with interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 6303 Center Road, Valley City, Ohio.
