Robert “Bob” Burton Cummings age 85, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Marymount Hospital. Mr. Cummings was a resident of Medina, Ohio and was an Army Veteran 1946 -1948 Germany, receiving the honorable Occupation Medal, WW II Victory Medal. Bob was born on December 19, 1928 in Cleveland to Arthur Ward and Alice Louise (nee Jenkins) Cummings and married his loving partner in his very full life, Dorothy Louise Cummings (nee McCrae) on February 1, 1975 sharing 39 years together.

He attended James Ford Rhodes High School, Baldwin-Wallace, Bowling Green and Cleveland State. Bob’s memberships included United Church of Christ Congregational Medina, City Club of Cleveland, Citizens League of Greater Cleveland, American Red Cross Financial Development Committee of Greater Cleveland, Downtown Business Council’s Safety Advisory Committee Representative, and Baldwin-Wallace College Alumni Fund. He held many professional and community positions, including President; Greater Cleveland Chapter Public Relations Society of America, Federation for Community Planning, and Greenwood Village Community Association, also being Trustee National Council on Alcoholism, Hitchcock House, Sister Mary Ignatia Gavin Foundation, United Service Organization (USO) Cuyahoga Council and he also served as Chairman ; for CARE and SEAC, citizen’s organization for school bond and levy support, and Stewardship & Finance Committee at Northfield Presbyterian Church, and Executive Director; Cleveland Technical Societies 1977-2009, also Bluecoats of Medina County 2003-2012 and Executive Secretary Bluecoats Cuyahoga County 1990-2007.

His business accomplishments included; Assistant General Secretary (VP) for the YMCA of Cleveland from 1954 thru 1969, Vice President for Public Relations , at Medical Mutual of Cleveland from 1969 thru 1974, Vice President of Public Affairs at The W.N. Gates Company from 1974 thru 1977, and then President of Robert B. Cummings and Associates to date. Bob enjoyed sharing with his family and many special people whom he has met through the years. He Was A Man Who Will Be Greatly Missed.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy, and his much loved children; Rev. Dana Cummings, Jolie Cummings, step-daughters; Linda (Todd) Jackson and Kelley (D.Scott) Wetta, and grandchildren; Raechel Tiffe, Emily and Ryan Jackson, Claire, Hailey, Olivia Wetta, sister Jean Kender, nephews and nieces; Doug (Cherie) Kender, Lori (Tim) Hovan, Keith Hutter, Rodney (Wendy) Hutter, Leslie (Darien) Hanson, Desiree Powell. Preceding him in death, parents; Arthur and Alice Cummings and his nephew David Kender.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the United Church of Christ Congregational on the Square (address below) in Medina at 11 AM with a luncheon to follow. Cremains will rest in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in Bob’s name to the UCC Congregational Church 217 East Liberty Street, Medina, Ohio 44256. Arrangement were entrusted to Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services 3477 Medina Road, Medina, Ohio 44256.
