WILLIAM G. VANEK

William G. (Bill) Vanek, age 79, born Feb. 23, 1939 in Cleveland to the late Joseph and Virginia (nee Sekerak) Vanek, passed away Tues., April 24, 2018. He grew up on the west side of Cleveland before moving to North Royalton, OH in 1956. In 1974 he moved to Medina, OH.
Bill was a U.S. Army Veteran serving as a Sergeant from 1959 to 1962. He was a member of American Legion, NRA and Ohio Rifle & Pistol Association. He worked in Information Services his entire career. Bill worked for EOG/CNG/Dominion Resource for 16 years before joining MCT/ALLTEL and retired as a Senior Manager after 29 years. He was well known for selecting and hiring the best candidates for employment and then guiding and training them to their potential.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed deer hunting. He was a classic car and military history enthusiast, especially WW II weapons and armor vehicles. He enjoyed all sports, especially basketball and soccer. He got his greatest joy from watching his two sons play soccer and rarely missed any of their games.
Bill’s greatest love was his family and had a fondness for all animals. He took great pride in raising and training his boxer side kick, Shea Leigh, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Barbara J. “Bonnie” (nee Kehoe) who he married in 1969; dear father of sons Scott (Missi) and Todd (Kimmie); beloved uncle and devoted friend of many.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Klaridge and Betty Buckzar; and three brothers, Robert, Richard and Joseph.
Friends may join the family for visitation Friday, April 27, 2018 from 5PM to 8PM at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 3477 Medina Road, Medina, OH 44256. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 28, 11:00AM at St. Martin of Tours, 1800 Station Rd., Valley City, OH. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Inurnment will be held at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH.
Family suggests, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bill’s name to any animal rescue organization.
