DONALD B. "BUZZ" DONALDSON SR.

December 4, 1933 — June 17, 2023

“Together Again”

Donald B. “Buzz” Donaldson, 89, of Southington, OH, passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on Saturday, June 17, 2023. He was born December 4, 1933, in Warren, OH, the son of the late Donald P. and Rose (Soltis) Donaldson.

He was married to Nona Hausch Donaldson for 54 years before her passing in 2009. Together, they had 5 children, and he raised his stepson, Dave (Deb Matzek) Kothera of Garrettsville, a daughter, Phyllis Donaldson, who lived with and cared for her dad in Southington, and a son, Scott Donaldson. He was blessed with 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter. A daughter, Carol, and 2 sons, Donald and Scott, preceded him in death.

Buzz worked as a carpenter and a plumber while building his own home for his family. In 1977, he purchased his present property and established “Rolling D Farms”, gutting and putting additions on his new home. Buzz’s dream of becoming a full-time farmer came to fruition when he began milking 55+ cows twice daily and grain farming up to 1,000 acres at his peak.

His first love was racing, which he did at the local fairgrounds, where he met his wife, Nona, who shared a love of racing with Buzz. Later, they would attend many races together and met many drivers, including Dale Earnhardt, whom he met on many occasions. Dale enjoyed talking to Buzz and Nona about farming, and referred to them as his “nice Ohio farmer friends”. Buzz also had a surprise visitor one day; looking for property to build a basketball camp, a Mr. LeBron James was met with a handshake and a smile.

Buzz and Nona gave back generously to their community with a gift of land where the new Southington school sits today.

Per Buzz’s wishes, he is to have an immediate cremation. A private graveside service will be held at the New Reform Cemetery in Southington Township at a later date. Care for Buzz was entrusted to Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231.

The family wanted to give a special thank you to all the nurses and staff at Traditions Health and Patriot Home Care for your excellent services and care to Buzz and to his family.
