HERMINE L. MCGARVEY

February 16, 1927 — February 9, 2023

Hermine Louise McGarvey born Hermine Louise Bell on February 16, 1927, to Leslie G. Bell and Hermine M. Bell (nee Nolan) in Bells Landing, Pennsylvania, peacefully entered the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday February 09, 2023.

Hermine was a Graduate of Bennett High School of Buffalo N.Y. and the State Beauty School in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Hermine married the Love of her life, David R. McGarvey on a Friday evening at 7:30 P.M. September 16, 1949, at the West Side Methodist Church in Clearfield Pennsylvania. Their first home was at 205 Beyer Avenue Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

They made their home in Garrettsville, Ohio where they raised two sons. Hermine enjoyed gardening, bowling, boating, fishing, crocheting, needlepoint, cooking, and taking care of her family. She was a member of the Garrettsville United Methodist Church where she helped in Sunday school. She bowled in a women’s league at Sky Lane Bowling and was a member of the Red Hats. She enjoyed traveling on family vacations. Hermine will be remembered for her many years of working at the Garrettsville Hardware. Hermine was an extraordinary woman. She was kind and generous. A devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. Hermine was a very strong and supporting woman for her family. She will always be loved and deeply missed by her family and her many friends.

Hermine is survived by two sons, David P. (Susan) McGarvey and Samuel A. (Teresa) McGarvey, two grandchildren, Terry I. McGarvey and Stephanie L. (Nick) Jarvis, and one great grandchild, Emerson Wilder “Sonny” Jarvis, five nephews James N. (Sydney) Bell, Carson T. Bell, Larry A. (Pia) Dietz, Lynn E. Dietz, Daniel A. (Laura) Dull, and five nieces Linda (Dan) Sobie (nee Bell), Dianna M. Laskay (nee Bell) Patricia A. Hewitt (nee Bell), Betty M. “Betsy” (Chuck) Stock (nee Dietz), Mary E. “Elaine” Barker (nee Dull). Hermine is also survived by a Cousin Dan Nolan and a god daughter Jessica Bateman, many great nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.

Hermine was preceded in death by an infant son, her loving husband David R. McGarvey. Her parents Leslie G. Bell and Hermine M. Bell (nee Nolan). Three brothers and a younger sister. Datus N. Bell, Author A. “Ab” Bell, Glen L. Bell Sr., and Helen M. Dietz (nee Bell). Two brother in-laws and a sister in-law, Robert E. Dull, Richard L. Spiker, and Helen L. “Louise” Spiker (nee McGarvey). Three nephews and two nieces, Leslie G. “Butch” Bell, Robert D. Dull, Roger A. Bell, Barbara L. “Barbie” Mondel (nee Dietz), and Judith L. Starr (nee Bell), and many aunts and uncles.

Hermine's memorial service will be Monday, February 20, 2023, with visitation from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. followed by a service conducted by the Reverend Richard K. Thewlis at Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center Street, Garrettsville, Ohio. Burial will be at the Park Cemetery.
