Kathy, beloved wife, mother, and dedicated member of her community. She will be remembered for her gentle kindness, unwavering love for her family and her commitment to her Catholic faith.
Kathy was born and raised in Cleveland. She attended St. Ignatius school and St Stephen’s High School.
She worked at Stouffer’s restaurant as well as Santa’s Floral shop. Those jobs ignited her love of cooking and flower design. Kathy also worked at Cleveland Trust Bank, where she met the love of her life, Walter. They married in 1962 and soon moved to Parma. They raised their four daughters and supported each of them with 12 years of Catholic education. They were parishioners of St Charles. Summers were spent at Ridgewood pool and creating lasting memories at Camp Christopher, fostering bonds that would endure a lifetime. Kathy retired from Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School as the food service manager, leaving a legacy of dedication and hard work.
A woman of simple pleasures, Kathy found joy in the little things in life. She delighted in watching Fox News, immersing herself in the world of current events. And best you didn’t call her at 3:00 o’clock as her show, General Hospital was on! An avid reader, she was often found surrounded by books, finding excitement in their pages and the adventures they held. Her love for literature took her to places she had never been, enriching her life with every story she encountered.
Though she was a woman of few words, Kathy's voice carried weight. When she spoke, you listened. Her wisdom and insight were unparalleled. She had a passion for flower arranging, finding beauty in the delicate blooms she meticulously created for weddings, showers and anniversaries. Yet, her penchant for collecting boxes often drove her family nuts with laughter, a quirk that endeared her to all who knew her. “That’s a good box, don’t throw that away!”. She had an appreciation for little things in life, finding joy in a good pen and pencil and the scent of Jessica McClintock perfume, declaring proudly, "I'm putting on Jessica."
Kathy and her daughters enjoyed Saturday morning breakfasts with her sister, Marilyn, and her daughters. It was a time to catch up, share a great meal and enjoy just being together. The big table at Bob Evans was the favorite landing spot!
On Sundays, after church and a great meal, the Scrabble board came out and Kathy was ready for some friendly competition with the fam. The tv would be on with a Browns or Indians game on to enjoy. If there wasn’t a game, HGTV would be her go to! Kathy found solace in the kitchen, where she would bake treats that filled her home with warmth. She was also an impeccable cook! Her Thanksgiving dressing has been passed down to her daughters and extended family!
Her dedication to her faith was evident in her involvement with St. Colette Parish, where she found a second family. She took great pride as she would add inserts to the church bulletin, wear bunny ears for the Easter egg hunt and proudly attend the annual 9/11 Memorial service. She enjoyed catching up with her church friends after mass, at the annual rummage sales and at the Daughters of St Colette meetings and events.
Her loving cat, Earl was more than just a pet; he was her constant companion, always by her side. Before Kathy headed out, she'd let Earl know, "I'll be back in an hour." He would respond with a lazy stretch. Their routine was simple yet meaningful, a reflection of the unspoken bond between them.
Kathy, beloved wife, mother, and dedicated member of her community. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her unwavering love for her family and her commitment to her passions.
In memory of Kathy, please consider a donation to Earl’s first home: Berea Animal Rescue Fund, https://www.bereaanimalrescue.com/donate/, or to The Wounded Warrior Project, https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/, which Kathy felt was an honorable way to support our veterans.
