MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP

Ronald F. Bischof, 87, of Montville Township, Medina, Ohio passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023.  He was born December 20, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Frank and Coletta Bischof.

Ron graduated from St. Ignatius High School and attended Case Western Reserve where he studied Interior Design.  He joined his parents in the family business and eventually became owner of Bischof Interiors.  Over his 70 year dedication he was an integral part in growing Bischof Interiors in to a successful and highly respected business in the community.

Ron was a 53 year Montville Township Trustee and member of the Ohio Township Association, 38 year member of the Advisory Board of the Medina County Health Department, 40 year member of the Advisory Board Medina Life Support Team, 8 year Director of the Highland Pee Wee Football Program, and 14 year Commissioner of the Wadsworth Youth Football Association. He was a 56 year member of St. Francis Xavier Parish and served 20 plus years as Eucharistic Minister, 23 year Commissioner of the Montville Township Police Department, 8 year member of the Advisory Board for the Medina County Law Enforcement Authority, and 12 year member of the Advisory Board for the Medina County Sheriff’s Department Dispatch Center.  Ron served as President of Medina County Council of Aging and Disabilities and was a past member of the Advisory Board for the Regional Planning Commission. He was the President of Medina County Office of Older Adults, a member of the Facilities Committee Highland Local Schools, Past President Highland Athletic Boosters, Chairman of two Highland Levy Committees and recipient of the Highland Pride Award, a member of County Public Safety Communications Task Force, and a member of the Economic Development Infrastructure Coordinating Committee. Ron was one of the original founders of the Highland Foundation for Educational Excellence, a member of Medina County Aesthetic Focus Group for 1-71 corridor, a member of the County Joint Economic Planning Committee, a volunteer at Evergreen Nursing Home and the 2015 recipient of the Medina County Township Association Grassroot Gratitude Award and was active with St. Ignatius High School Alumni.

Ron was a loving and caring husband.  He just celebrated 64 years of marriage on November 14, 2023. He was extremely proud of and deeply loved his three children and their spouses, 11 grandchildren and spouses and 4 great grandchildren.  He enjoyed family vacations together, especially 27 years on his houseboat in Kentucky and the last 7 years traveling in their RV.  Ron thoroughly enjoyed seeing the smiles and amazement on the faces of his grandchildren while performing magic and card tricks.  A big form of relaxation and enjoyment was playing the organ which he was self-taught and ultimately became an accomplished organist.  As a teenager he worked as a pinsetter at Fairview Park Lanes.  He eventually bowled with his father and truly enjoyed the sport.  He bowled weekly and did so up until a week before he passed away.

Ron was very proud of Montville Township, its Police Department, parks, and maintenance department as well as all the people who were integral in helping make the township what it is today.  He was humbled and honored to have his name placed on the township’s Safety and Services Center in honor of his dedicated service which began in 1970.  He was re-elected every four years and became one of the longest elected officials in the state of Ohio with over 53 years of service.

Ron was very kind and generous with his time, was funny and enjoyed making people laugh and smile.  He was creative, artistic and loved music.  He was an honest religious man who prayed and said his rosary daily.

Ron was dedicated to his family and will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Eleanor “Ellie” Bischof; children, Deanna (Robert) Zabinski of League City, Texas; Todd (Annette) Bischof of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Thad (Laura) Bischof of Medina, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brother, Dan (Valerie) Bischof and sister, Donna (Don) Muranko; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
